Why should I buy a Redmi Y2?

Xiaomi Redmi Y2: 5 reasons why you should buy

Image result for redmi y2

1. The Redmi Y2 has a modern design. It looks a lot like the Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Mi A1 had a baby. The front is big and bezel-less while the dual camera module on the back is reminiscent to how things are on-board the Redmi Note 5 Pro. The antennas see a major reshuffle in that they're seen honing a new U-shaped outline. Their placement remains the same, which is towards the ends of the phone, much like it is in the Mi A1. All in all, the Redmi Y2 is the most beautiful and the most premium looking phone under Rs 10,000. Even more so than the Redmi Note 5. The Redmi Note 5, although it's modern from a philosophical point of view, uses a dated design that Xiaomi has used over and over again.

2. The Redmi Y2 has the same core hardware (Qualcomm Snapdragon 625) as the Redmi Note 5 and because it has to push less pixels owing to the 720p+ resolution capping, in theory, the Redmi Y2 should be faster than the Redmi Note 5, in theory. And it is, but you'll have to be as observant as Sherlock, to make out the differences. The difference is still there though and even though it is hard to notice, even a minor boost to things matters, since both the phones are priced so very similarly. The Redmi Y2 is available in two versions: 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

3. The Redmi Y2 is a dual-SIM phone that supports expandable storage of up to 128GB via a dedicated micro-SD card slot which means that you can have two SIM cards and a micro-SD card running simultaneously on the phone.

4. The Redmi Y2 sports a dual camera system on the rear consisting of one 12-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture and another 5-megapixel sensor for depth sensing. It further comes with phase detection autofocus and LED flash. Videos are capped to 1080p but the phone comes with EIS for stabilisation which is nice. The Redmi Y2, captures some good-looking photos in good light with good amount of detail and mostly spot-on colours. Dynamic range could have been better, but overall, the Redmi Y2 should suffice in ideal lighting.

Xiaomi's new phone is also able to capture some well to-do photos -- with occasional softness -- in tricky light situations with good detail. As for the secondary camera, well, the Redmi Y2 does a fine job -- for the price -- at capturing bokeh shots as well, which is a welcome change in this price segment. It's surely not perfect, but then, the Redmi Y2 can differentiate between subject and background more effortlessly than any other dual camera phone around its price point.

5. The Redmi Y2 has a whopping 16-megapixel selfie camera with 'soft' LED flash and face unlock for biometric authentication. It is further assisted by AI for enabling beautification in selfies. Xiaomi says that the 16MP front camera on-board the Redmi Y2 uses pixel-binning technique to combine data from four pixels into one single large 2.0um pixel, that apparently reduces noise and helps capture more light even in low and tricky light situations. Xiaomi calls this Super Pixel. Also there's auto HDR (that was last seen in the Redmi Note 5 Pro) that can detect backlit conditions automatically and helps bring out more details in selfies both in indoor as well as outdoor situations. And it can take software-based portrait selfies too. The Redmi Y2, it's safe to say, doesn't disappoint as far as selfies are concerned, especially in good (outdoor) lighting. It is capable of taking some really crisp and detailed selfies in ideal lighting conditions. The same is true about portrait selfies, that although can be quite a hit or miss, are the best that we've seen in this price range.
